Petunia Rapide

on

Petunia’s produce an abundance of beautiful flowers. Another sprawling plant with curving but strong stems. These particular Petunia’s are cascading so great for tall planters, hanging baskets, large pots and troughs.

Another flower I’ve I’ve grown from seedling for the first time this year. The seeds were indiscriminate so I have a mix of white, pink and rich magenta across my pots and hanging baskets.

My Notes for Growing

Germination

  • A few seeds per seedling tray, cover loosely and thinly with compost
  • Move to larger pots once an inch to two inches tall. Thin the seedlings.
  • Grown on a window sill they will germinate within a few days to a week.

Planting Out

  • Ensure you’re pot, hanging basket or trough has fresh moist compost.
  • Plant 6 inches apart
  • Ensure the top most roots are covered by a cm of compost once firmed down
  • Once transplanted to outdoor pots and hanging baskets growth will stall and become slow. In some cases they will look like they are wilting, or the stems losing their strength. Don’t worry, this doesn’t last long. You just need a bit of perseverance.
  • After transplanting outside they will establish again in 4-8 weeks. Don’t over water (drown them).

Tending

  • In warm weather water every two days in pots with a 6inch diameter or more
  • In hot weather water every day
