Garden Nasturtium

Both climbing and cascading with an abundance of vibrant flowers. Large leaves make this a bushy plant that spreads. Great for climbing trellis and hanging baskets. I planted in a trough.

Grown for the first time this year, a trough has proven to not to be the best choice. Requires regular pruning.

My Notes for Growing

Germination

  • Seeded straight into new, moist compost in a trough about 1cm deep
  • They easily need 12 inches of space from the next plant
  • Trough positioned at the front of the house in 6 hours of sunshine per day
  • 2-3 weeks to germinate

Tending

  • This plant is a slow starter, but then explodes quickly and will require regular pruning
  • In warm weather water every day
  • Climbing is none destructive. I.E. no strangulation or destruction
  • These flowers make good company for fruit or veg as they are an aphid magnet, but as an ornamental flower they can get destroyed by black fly.
