Petchoa is a genetic cross between Petunia and Calibrachoa. They produce strong stems with bushy leaf like a Calibrachoa, and lovely large bell shaped flowers of striking colour much like a Petunia.
I’ve grown these from seedling for the first time this year. Largely because I’ve bought them in as plants before, love cascade plants, and petunia flowers. The flowers of the beuatical french vanilla are a lovely pale yellow with a darker mustard colour in the creases.
My Notes for Growing
I bought seedlings from an online retailer. It was very hot the day they arrived so I planted them straight away in hanging baskets. They had one or two flowers each when they arrived.
Planting
- The hanging would be located at the front of the house where they get sun from early morning through to early afternoon.
- Planted 6 inches apart
- Planted 2 inches from the edge of the basket to protect the roots and give them room to grow
- Ensured the top most roots had a 1cm covering
- Watered heavily
Tending
- Watered daily for the first week, particularly as the weather was hot
- Then watered every two days, if sunny/hot every day
- Grew very slowly for the first 4-6 weeks. Then became more bushy and produced more flowers.
